Established in 1974, MGS Technical Plastics is a family owned plastic injection moulding company. Over 60 people are employed at our facility in Blackburn, including highly trained moulding technicians, toolmakers, quality engineers and multi-skilled operatives.
Directors John Sturgess and Neil Garrity proudly manage a manufacturing facility producing exceptional components for a range of industries, including but not limited to:
Energy and technology
Hygiene, washroom and pest control industries
Leisure & Household
Chemical, Oil & Gas
Every year, the company invests in both capital equipment and more importantly our staff. With a turnover of £7m, MGS plans to reach a target of £10m by 2020. We are going to achieve this target through considered investment in: an ERP system, new mould machinery, and by bolstering key areas of technical support in order to attract new customers and to expand the services we can offer to our current client base.
“Valuing employees is not policy driven at MGS, but is derived from a strong moral code, all of which results in a company that values the needs of our customers and employees equally.”
Employee engagement is important to everyone at MGS, ensuring they are with us every step of the way. We believe it is important to invest in our employees, enabling them to reach their full potential; internal recruitment and training is integral to achieving this.
We begin with full customer engagement, listening to the customer’s needs and their desired outcome. We want to achieve the highest standards for every customer. Our specialised technical and project team take ideas from concept to production; there is always assistance available for new product development projects, or tool transfers for existing projects. Engineering skill is used in every project to ensure products are fit for purpose, assessing suitability, functionality, performance, and reliability. We have solid relationships with toolmakers in the UK and abroad, allowing us to tailor quotes to the needs of every customer.
“This allows us to reduce time-scales and accelerate our customer’s project through to completion – often much faster than our competitors.”
Our quality assurance procedures are backed by our recently audited IATF16949 accreditation, the latest recognised international quality standard for the automotive sector. We have 20 injection moulding machines, ranging in size from 35 to 800 tonnes, allowing us to manufacture products of various sizes. We continually invest to increase our capability, adding robotics, a 3D printer and an overhead crane during 2017.
MGS has a staff retention level that is the envy of other companies in our sector. We are proud of creating a safe and secure environment, that empowers and leads in equal measure. Being a company dedicated to our local area, we are actively involved in community projects. We are sponsors of the Blackburn Road Runners’ Winter Warmer 10km – some of our employees even take part – and the Blackburn with Darwen Good Neighbour Awards. We also support Nightsafe, a local charity that provides services to homeless people aged 16 to 24.
